about

In emerging artist sister swimmer’s upcoming EP, “The Horizon Line Swallowed Us Whole”, the boundary between dream and memory fizzles, sputters, dissolves to static. In the natural disaster of experience—did you forget your body again? Do we trust the vessel carrying us forward? Is it love or did you just want to feel safe? Britt Amborn’s voice wavers in the questioning, as a salve to turn emotional injury into relational fortitude, to move forward from obsessions with place, longing, and what stories the body claims for keeps.

At the heart of the project is a fierce commitment to collaboration. Producer/artist Nicholas Ward of french tears & Hey Marseilles brings his esteemed direction with moody compositions, stirring electricity with inherent melancholy. In “Knuckles” & “Monster Song”, artist Jeremiah Moon's cello swings the pendulum between an anxious tightening in the chest, to a sentimental carrying akin to a long exhale. Drummer Colin Richey lends a dynamic urgency in “No : Body”, along with the fiery grit of AUSTEN's background vocals. Mike Vernon Davis’ engineering adds a gravitational pull with analog-inspired force.

“The Horizon Line Swallowed Us Whole” is a distorted investigation into what detaches self from story, in the dark mythologies we construct around memory. In between present-minded romanticism and nostalgia-drenched escapism—a glowing, beckoning horizon (being present to the body, tender with its history) is an ever-shifting daydream, a worthy pursuit.

lyrics

I am the monster in the bed
Couldn't see the sunlight streaming in
Waves of dust floating 'round my head
Around the valley that my ambition makes
Around the valley my shape makes in the sheets
One day I won't be so lost at sea
Don't come for me

What's holy if you can't leave it behind?
You're not late, you're just in time

I am just looking for my own body
She holds dusk like a shadow to her chest
Give you everything I have until I won't
You'll never hear from me again, when I become the sea

Did you see it?
Watch the shapes shift
Did you see it?
Mind your manners

I might let you know if I could give
Let you know if I could give her up
Give the ghosts up

What's holy if you can't leave it behind?
